Here is what I have found and solved since I had posted for svgalib
and console switching problem.
There was still a problem existed just about same as Roger wrote
then I came to realize that Roger got a newer kernel 2.4.18-19.7.x
on his RHL 7.2.
At that time I was using kernel 2.4.19-NANO which was installed by me
getting the source from www.kernel.org due to ntp installation.
I went to the original (distributed) 2.4.18-18.8.0 but not solved, same
even with svgalib-1.4.3 (if I remember correct).
Very strange, svgalib-1.9.17 doesn't compile on this kernel whilst
no problem on 2.4.19-NANO.
I then made the RedHat 'up2date' utility (it's very handy, I've always
done but lazy these days:-) and got the latest kernel 2.4.18-19.8.0.
Now this time the compilation has finished without any problem.
Happy to say lir00-52 runs without any problem with G400 video card.
