RE: [linrad] svgalib problems (fwd)

Hi Peter, in windows in is described as a Rage128, I will have to look to
see what the actual chip is. It looks as though I have been unlucky in my
choice of video card. If you have any idea of which cards play best with
svgalib I would like to know. Rather than spend hours at this I will just
buy an appropriate card.

Conrad:

SVGA support for the ATI chipsets seems to be a bit variable. I believe the
old Mach 32 part was properly supported, but a comment in
/etc/vga/libvga.config casts doubt on the Mach 64. The FAQ (
http://www.svgalib.org/svgalib.user.faq.html ) says that "CT or newer" parts
will work.

I have spent many hours trying to make a Rage II chip work, but have had no
success. That project is now on the back burner. I did try the VESA setting
as well as the Rage options (RAGE and R128), but had lots of system crashes
just as you described. Is your Rage chip marked Rage 128 or something
different?

Good luck.
