It seems your version of nasm is very modern. I downloaded nasm-0.99.01 
and indeed I see the same error. I think it is a bug in nasm.

Nobody is assigned to this bug yet (after 2 months) and I am not 100%
sure it really is a bug. Maybe the new nasm wants some compiler directive
in order to generate multimedia extension code.


The solution is to install nasm-0.98.39 (or older.) 

The latest stable version of NASM is 0.98.39
The latest development version of NASM is 0.99.02
try: nasm -v
