Dominic at Antennspecialisten installed ALSA on a mini-computer,
a small box about 8 x 15 x 25 cm. Niklas brought it here and we made
some experiments with it.

The computer worked fine with Delta44 as input and the builtin
sound chip as output. The Delta44 sampling speed was 48kHz, Niklas
and I tried to change it but we were not able to make it run at any
other speed. After quite some time we installed OSS and found that
the computer was not fast enough to run more than 48kHz because
the processor was 3 times slower than my PentiumIII despite having
much better "bogomips". This would have been a really low cost
solution but the "economy" processor made it uninteresting so we
dropped the project.

Dominic knows how to install ALSA under RedHat 8.0 and I hope he
will share his info with the list.

There are still some errors, ALSA is not quite OSS compatible
when installed as Dominic did it but the ALSA people say it is
becuse some parameter (?) was incorrectly set. The Linrad setup
procedure will not give the correct no of channels so the user must
know his hardware and not ask for more channels than actually
available. I am sure it will be easy to fix:-)
